Educational Websites and Resources

I find that using both resources that I have made plus using what is already out there  as educational Websites are great ways to keep the homeschool and tutoring environment new and fresh.    Here I will list and annotate websites and resources that are available by subject.  I also have a link to my teacher pay teacher page if you would like to use any of those resources.

Language and Reading Educational Websites:

  • My Audio School:  This commercial educational website, founded by a homeschool parent, offers educational audio content such as classic books, old-time radio theater, historical radio and television broadcasts, and video clips on a variety of school subjects such as Ancient History, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the American Revolution, etc.  While 80% of the content is available for an annual fee of $14.99,20% of the content is “unblocked” and available absolutely FREE, which is why we’re featuring it on ClickSchooling. Much of the free content focuses on Language Arts.
  • Folger Shakespeare  Library:  For ages 9 and up with parental guidance.  This Shakespearean Educational website is a great fun way to introduce the younger crowd to Shakespeare.  But with all Shakespeare content you may want to check what they are watching or playing with first before you send them here!
  • Quizlet: Parts of Speech:  Quizlet is a great educational website that allows students to learn vocabulary and quiz themselves to help them study for vocabulary tests and other items.  It is also a great research when learning those pesky parts of speech.
  • Storybird:  Does Daddy go on road trips?  Do you have several children who are creative?  This is a great website that allows you to collaborate on story telling each writing a sentence at a time and adding an illustration.  This would be fun to do throughout the school year and publish at the end.  Or even throughout a unit!
  • Read Works:  This gem is excellent for any age reader.  Need a quick reading test?  Wanna add a little information to what you are learning?  Want to explore a fictional story on what you are learning about?  READ WORKS!  This great site lets you pick out articles on certain lexile ranges or even grade level about a particular topic or reading skill.
  • Kiddie Records: This great little gem of a website has CLASSIC (I mean 1940’s- 1950’s classics) kid recording of books.  REALLY, you should check this one out!  I cannot wait to see what I can find.  They also release a new record each week.

Math Educational Websites:

  • Scratch is a programming language and an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Scratch is designed and maintained by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab. ”  – Website Description.   This educational website is great for your problem solver who needs to think outside the box or who likes to create things.  Ages 8- and up.
  • Warm Up with some Fun Winter Math:  The winter months have you bummed?  Tired of the math curriculum and want a break between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but want to keep learning going?  This educational website was designed by teachers and is used to keep the learning going, but to build on the theme of all things winter:  yummy sweet food, snow, ice, and snow animals!  Ages 5 and up!
  • Iditarod:  I am not a huge Iditarod person, so I have limited knowledge on this.  But a for a child who loves maps, statistics, and a good race.  Maybe learning all things Iditarod, and following the path and race could be fun.
  • Kids Numbers:  An all in one stop for all things math.  Learning to add?  Learning Algebra?  You can find it all here from initial instruction, to games, and yes, even a worksheet maker!  And…. It is ALL FREE.  In fact that is the goal of the creators of the sight.  Like Khan Academy, providing quality learning tools for FREE!

Science Educational Websites:

  • Kids Do Ecology:  This great educational website is set up by The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis.  It has many different avenues that your 3rd through 7th grader can explore the world of ecology.  Topics included in this site are: Learn about Ecology, Data Science, World Biomes and Marine Mammals.
  • 12 Days of Christmas Science:  YES!  I am even collecting holiday educational websites for you!  This is a great way to keep learning going but take a break from the books.  Keeping math and science fun over the holidays can help encourage your child who may be burnt out on the books and give you a way to mix it up!

Discover famous African-Americans and explore black history with this website from Scholastic.  Topics discussed here include but not limited to: The Underground Railroad, Civil Rights, The History of Jazz and Famous African Americans.
